The third round of AFC World Cup qualifying begins for the Socceroos on the Gold Coast as they host Bahrain on Thursday.

Australia breezed through the second round of qualifying, winning every game without conceding a goal, but they will be given a tougher time this round as they come up against Japan and Saudi Arabia.

This means they will want to get off to a good start against Bahrain to set themselves up for success and a stress-free qualification, something that hasn't been the case in recent years.
