Erik ten Hag is hoping to build on a promising first season in charge of Manchester United as he looks ahead to a second campaign at the helm.

The Red Devils qualified for the Champions League after they finished third in the Premier League and they also won their first trophy since 2017, lifting the EFL Cup.

Ten Hag will certainly want to bolster his side again as they look to finish higher in the league and go deep in the Champions League with a deal for England international Mason Mount now completed.

Mount's arrival was the first of three key summer signings with Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund also moving to Old Trafford.

The Sporting News looks at the Man United players contracted for the 2023/24 season.

Ten Hag's first problem was to solve the issue in the goalkeeping department. David de Gea has left the club and Jack Butland has joined Rangers, so United moved swiftly to sign Cameroon star Andre Onana from Inter Milan. Dean Henderson was sold to Crystal Palace and Altay Bayindir signed as his replacement, with United banking around £10 million / $12.6 million in profit.

Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop had one-year extensions triggered in their deals, but the latter was sold to Sunderland. Matej Kovar was also sold to Bayer Leverkusen for roughly £7m/$9m.

In defence, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe have been released, Alex Telles has been sold to Al Nassr, with Eric Bailly moving to Besiktas after having his United contract cancelled. Sergio Reguilon was signed as an emergency loan after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Jonny Evans rejoined the club on a year-long deal after impressing in training and preseason following his departure from Leicester City at the end of 2022/23. Ethan Laird has signed for Birmingham City and Teden Mengi left for Luton Town.

United wrapped up a deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea and landed a deadline-day loan deal for Sofyan AmrabatFred has departed for Fenerbahce, while Zidane Iqbal has moved to Utrecht. Marcel Sabitzer returned to Bayern Munich after spending the second half of the season on loan at Old Trafford and has since signed permanently for Borussia Dortmund.

United finally wrapped up a move for Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund to boost their attack, with Wout Weghorst returning to Burnley after his loan spell and Anthony Martial struggling with injury, while Anthony Elanga has signed for Nottingham Forest.

Mason Greenwood was named on the club's retained list for next season, but the club decided he will be moved on following an internal investigation into off-field behaviour. Greenwood was facing criminal charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but those charges were dropped in February. He joined Getafe on loan.

How Man United were built

When Ten Hag joined the Red Devils from Ajax, he brought a few players over from the Eredivisie. Lisandro Martinez and Antony joined from Ajax while Tyrell Malacia transferred from Feyenoord.

Other than players who graduated from the Man United academy, Luke Shaw is the longest-serving player at the club. The defender joined in 2014 from Southampton.
