Which Cricket Stadiums have named a gate or a stand after Sachin Tendulkar?

Three cricket stadiums across the world have, so far, named a gate or a stand at the venue in honour of the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

  1. Wankhede Stadium: It is no surprise that the first-ever cricket stadium which honoured Tendulkar was none other than the Wankhede Stadium, in his birthplace Mumbai. The iconic stadium which already had two stands (East and West) named after famous Mumbai-based cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Merchant, two main gates named after Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad and a dressing after Vijay Manjrekar, decided to rename the stand above the MCA pavilion as 'Sachin Tendulkar Stand' in 2001.
  2. Sydney Cricket Ground: On the occasion of Sachin Tendulkar's 50th birthday, Australia's iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) named one of its gates after the Indian legend. Along with Tendulkar, West Indies great Brian Lara was honoured. Earlier the venue had a Sir Don Bradman gate which was used by the Australian cricket team to enter the stadium. Now the visiting teams will get into the stadium through the Tendulkar and Lara gates.
  3. Sharjah Cricket Stadium: The Sharjah Cricket Stadium became the latest venue to honour the batting legend. They renamed the West Stand, the 'Sachin Tendulkar Stand' a day after Tendulkar turned 50. The renaming also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the batsman's famous innings against Australia in the Coca-Cola Cup. He scored back-to-back hundreds against Australia on April 22 and April 24, 1998, which helped India clinch the trophy in Sharjah. His century in the penultimate game of the tournament is famously known as the 'Desert Storm' where he hit 143 off 131 balls.
