Most wickets in ICC World Cups: Mitchell Starc reigns supreme as highest wicket-taker in T20 and ODI World Cups

The Super 8 games of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are currently underway with records being set each passing game. In the most recent clash between Australia and Bangladesh in group A, veteran pacer, Mitchell Starc became the player with the most wickets in World Cups, both T20 and ODI formats combined.

Starc ripped through Tanzid Hasan’s defences in the very first over of the match, setting past the legendary Lasith Malinga to become the highest wicket-taker in World Cups with 95 tickets to his name. Starc has always been the man in ICC events for Australia and he is once again proving the same in this year's competition.  

The combined efforts of the Australian bowlers helped them restrict the Bangladeshis to just 140 runs in 20 overs. Fellow pacer, Pat Cummins also took a hat-trick by the end of the innings, becoming only the second Australian after Brett Lee to achieve the feat.

Highest wicket-takers in ODI and T20 World Cups combined

Starc overtook Malinga’s tally of 94 wickets to become the undisputed king in the list of elites in the Super 8 clash against Bangladesh. Having won three World Cups already, the ODI and World Cup in 2015 and 2023, and the T20 World Cup in 2021, Starc will be determined to add another title collection 

Shakib Al Hasan, recently retired Trent Boult, and Sri Lanka’s finest spinner, Muttiah Murlidharan are the other members of the highest wicket-taker list in World Cups.
