On Sunday, the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end as Sunrisers Hyderabad took on Kolkata Knight Riders in the tournament final in Chennai.

SRH chose to bat first but were rocked early as they lost openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head in the first two overs. They never recovered from the early blows, eventually being bowled out for 113. In reply, KKR's Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer ensured there were no hiccups as they chased down the total in just 10.3 overs.

Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the subject of much debate before the season even started, as he became the IPL most expensive player ever, earning INR 24.75 crores at the player auction in December.

The first half of the season did not go to plan for Starc, who often leaked runs despite picking up a few wickets. However, he proved crucial in the playoffs, taking 3/34 and 2/14 in Qualifier 1 and the Final against SRH. KKR's victory means Starc also continues his exceptional record of never losing a top-level tournament final.
