England star Jofra Archer has made an impressive return from a 17-month injury absence, taking three wickets in a domestic T20 clash in South Africa.

The 27-year-old had been dealing with elbow and back issues that sidelined him for last year's Ashes series and two straight World Cups, leaving a massive hole in the English lineup.

Archer cemented his long-awaited return with figures of 3/27 from four overs while playing for MI Cape Town in the new SA20 league, including 12 dot balls and a wicket maiden before being on a hat-trick in his final over.

The quick helped lead his side to an eight-wicket victory over Paarl Royals.

Archer was back bowling with the searing pace that made him a household name during the 2019 Ashes series and the 2019 World Cup.

English teammate Jos Buttler also featured during the first match of the new T20 league, scoring a half-century for the Royals in a rare highlight for his side.

Archer will be pushing for a return for this year's Ashes on home soil, which kicks off in June.
