James Harmes traded to Western Bulldogs

Contracted Melbourne midfielder James Harmes has been traded to the Western Bulldogs in return for its future third round pick.

The future selection is tied to the Western Bulldogs, having been used in the Lachie Hunter deal last season.

Harmes played just nine games this season, falling out of favour in the Demons midfield.

The 28-year-old, who was part of Melbourne's premiership side in 2021, is set to add depth to the Bulldogs' on-ball unit as a defensive midfield option.

Collingwood offering Lachie Schultz a lengthy contract

Collingwood has tabled a five-year offer for Dockers forward Lachie Shultz, reports AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey.

The prolific goalkicker requested a move to the Magpies on Monday, citing family reasons as the main draw home.

Schultz finished equal sixth in Fremantle's best and fairest after kicking 33 goals from 23 games.

Ben McKay completes move, North Melbourne gains Pick 3

North Melbourne's draft hand continues to grow, with Pick 3 arriving as compensation for Ben McKay's free agency move to Essendon.

The defender's move was confirmed on Tuesday morning.

According to SEN journalist Tom Morris, the move will trigger band one compensation, with the pick landing after the Kangaroos' second overall selection.

North Melbourne will hold Picks 2, 3, 15, 21, 44, 56,  and 64, which means a play for the first selection and Harley Reid is absolutely in play.

West Coast list boss Rohan O'Brien last week told Gettable that the Eagles would be open to trading Pick 1 in this year's draft.

"We'll listen to everyone's offers if they come our way… but it's going to have to be something pretty special to turn our heads," O’Brien said.

"We're not putting a price on it at all. We've got the pick, we'll wait to see what happens.

Why Xavier Duursma wants Essendon trade

Port Adelaide talent Xavier Duursma is keen to get to Essendon in order to play more through the midfield.

The 23-year-old played more on the wing and flanks in 2023, as he fell behind the likes of Zak Butters, Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis in the midfield pecking order.

According to Power legend Kane Cornes, Duursma's desire to get more engine room minutes is the reason behind his trade request.

"What led to his exit was his exit meeting at Port Adelaide, he sat down and said: ‘I’m after more midfield time’," Cornes said on AFL Trade Radio.

"They were pretty honest with him and said: ‘Look, we don’t see you breaking into the midfield. We’ve got Willem Drew, Connor Rozeee, Zak Butters, Jason Horne-Francis and Ollie Wines. We don’t think you’ll get in front of that group. Your best option here is to play on the wing’.

"I don’t think he was that happy with that and they said if you want to explore some more opportunities through the midfield, it’s probably best you do that at another club. That was the catalyst for him exploring his options and speaking to other clubs."
